What To Expect

During your Botox® or Dysport™ treatment, you can expect a professional and comfortable experience:

Preparation: When you arrive, your skin will be cleaned, and the treatment area may also be marked to guide the injections.

Injection Process: The actual injection process usually takes only a few minutes. Botox®, Dysport™ or Xeomin® is injected into the targeted muscles using a fine needle. You might feel a slight pinch or sting as the needle is inserted. The number of injections depends on several factors, including the extent of the area being treated and the desired effects.

Minimal Discomfort: Most patients report minimal to no discomfort during the injection, similar to a bug bite or prick. The use of a fine needle and quick treatment duration makes the process quite tolerable.

Duration: The entire appointment typically lasts around 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the number of areas being treated.

Communication: Your provider may ask you to make certain facial expressions, like frowning or smiling, to better target the specific muscles that need treatment.

How To Prepare

To ensure your Botox® or Dysport™ treatment is most effective and safe, there are some guidelines prior to your appointment to follow.

Consultation: Schedule a consultation with your provider to discuss your goals and expectations. This is the time to address any concerns, discuss your medical history, and determine if Botox is the right choice for you.

Medications and Supplements: Inform your provider about all medications, supplements, and herbal products you are taking. You may need to stop taking blood-thinning medications and supplements such as aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, fish oil, and others a few days before the procedure to reduce the risk of bruising.

Alcohol Consumption: Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before your treatment, as alcohol can increase bruising.

Schedule Appropriately: Plan your treatment when you do not have major events or activities immediately afterward. Some swelling or bruising may occur, so give yourself some downtime to recover.

Makeup: Come to the appointment with a clean face—remove all makeup, which helps reduce the risk of infection and allows the provider to accurately place the injections.

Aftercare

Proper aftercare is crucial to maximize the benefits of your Botox® or Dysport™ treatment and to ensure a safe and quick recovery.

Avoid Touching the Treated Area: For at least 24 hours after your treatment, avoid rubbing, massaging, or applying pressure to the treated areas. This helps prevent the Neuromodulator from spreading to unintended muscles.

Stay Upright: Try to stay upright for 4 hours following the injections. Avoid bending over or lying down immediately after the procedure to prevent the product from migrating to other areas.

Skip Strenuous Activities: Avoid strenuous physical activities, heavy workouts, and anything that significantly increases your heart rate for at least 24 hours after the treatment. This helps reduce the risk of bruising and swelling.

Keep Out of the Sun: Avoid direct sunlight and heat exposure such as saunas, hot tubs, or hot showers for the first 24 to 48 hours. Heat can cause the blood vessels to dilate and potentially increase bruising and swelling.

Chill with Ice Packs: If you experience swelling or discomfort, you can gently apply a cold pack to the area for a few minutes at a time during the first day. Be sure not to apply direct pressure.

Skip the Makeup: Avoid applying makeup for at least a day to give your skin time to heal and to prevent infection.

Alcohol and Blood Thinners: Avoid alcohol and blood-thinning medications as directed by your provider. Both can increase the risk of bruising.

Watch for Unusual Symptoms: While side effects are generally mild, watch for symptoms like drooping eyelids, muscle weakness, or difficulty swallowing. If you experience any of these, contact your healthcare provider immediately.

Follow Up: Depending on your provider’s advice, you might have a follow-up appointment to assess the results once the Botox has taken full effect (usually two weeks). This visit is also a good time to discuss any concerns or plan additional treatments.

Skin Care Routine: Resume your usual skincare and makeup routine after the first 24 hours unless your provider suggests otherwise. Gentle care is key to maintaining the treatment effects.

FAQs

Read answers to common questions about our aesthetic and wellness treatments.

Are there any long-term effects of Botox®?

Neuromodulators are temporary treatments. With regular treatments, you can maintain your results over time. It is important to remain consistent with the discussed tailored plan to receive the most optimal and long-lasting results.  Over time, some individuals might develop a tolerance to Neuromodulators, which could reduce the treatments effectiveness. In this case, the adjustments in dosage or frequency in treatment may be needed.

Can I return to normal activities after the treatment?

Yes, you can resume back to most of your normal activities immediately after the treatment. However, we ask that you avoid touching or massaging the treated area, any strenuous exercise, consumption of alcohol, and heat exposure such as saunas, tanning beds, or hot baths for 24 hours. It is also imperative to try and keep the treated area elevated for at least four hours.

How soon will I see results?

You may start to notice a reduction in muscle activity and a smoothing of wrinkles within a few days. This typically appears within 3 to 7 days after the procedure. However, the complete effect usually becomes visible within 2 weeks, as the Neuromodulator fully takes effect and muscles become more relaxed.

Will the treatment be painful?

The treatment is not painful; however, you may feel a quick, small pinch or sting during the injections. After the procedure, the treated area may feel slightly tender for a short time. Most people experience minimal to no discomfort at all. However, if you experience any severe changes or symptoms, please call us immediately.

Is Botox® safe?

Yes, Neuromodulators are generally safe, however, it is important to have this treatment administered by a trained specialist, like our advanced injectors at Seamless Health. Side effects are usually minimal and temporary. At Seamless Health, our staff are precise and experienced in ensuring you have the most comfortable experience. Our initial consultation will take you through the entire process as we review your medical history. This consultation will help us determine if this treatment is the safest and most effective option to achieve your needs.

How long do the results last?

Results typically last 3-4 months, depending on the individual and the area treated. Results can last longer in areas with less frequent muscle movement compared to areas with more active muscles. Additionally, your body’s metabolism, the condition of your skin, and the strength of your muscles can influence how long the effects last.

What is Botox®?

Neuromodulators are injectable substances that influence nerve activity and communication between nerves. The treatment involves injectable substances that temporarily relax facial muscles to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. They work by affecting the release or action of neurotransmitters, which are chemicals that transmit signals between nerve cells. They can also medically alleviate migraines, excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), and TMJ pain.
